Dave Edwards – Singer & Jam Night Host...

Singing has always played a great part in my life.

When I was growing up in the sixties I would often hear my Dad singing popular songs of the day as he went about his daily routine.

Right through from junior school where I first found out that I could sing, through to today, where I feel I have at last found out where my “talent” really lies, singing has brought me immense pleasure.

I suppose my first real influences...
Were the artists my Dad had in his music collection.

I remember listening avidly to the great Roy Orbison & to the Motown and Soul artists of the day, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Sam Cooke & others.

My Dad had a particular fondness for Diana Ross but I preferred Gladys Knight, there was something more soulful and real in her voice that appealed to me.

Then the seventies came along and...
I like many others listened & was influenced by the great mixture of artists that came to the fore, like...

Marc Bolan, Elton John, The Eagles, Rod Stewart and a man who has come to be my definition of the greatest Rock and Blues vocalist of all time – Paul Rodgers.

Around 1978 I was persuaded by a workmate that I should sing in his newly formed Heavy Metal band – “Hydravein”. We did a few gigs and people seemed to like us but like all things bandwise we came to a natural end.

I later went on to form another AOR band called “China” with the same core musicians, we got to the stage where record industry people were attending gigs but as we were all working and had some commitments we decided that living on the road wasn’t for us and again we split.

Several years passed without musical activity, then...
In the nineties I bought a PA system and went out working the pubs and clubs doing everything from Little Richard’s “Long Tall sally” through to The Eagles “Desperado”. The money was great but there was no spirit in the music.

It was around this time that I really discovered my real musical love – The Blues. I can’t explain why but the music is so simple yet powerful that it really moves me.

I dabbled with a couple of rock combos doing covers and then met a guy who has since really kept me interested in performing – my good friend and great guitarist Matt Thorpe

Matt and I went on to become members of “Down’n’Dirty” a Blues Rock combo, we played together for a couple of years on the midlands Blues circuit with appearances at places like the original 'Robin Hood'
And we've enjoyed a couple of number-one-songs in the MP3.com Blues/Rock chart.

So what's next ?
Well, I'm always on the lookout for a band to sing with, but it's not easy finding the right mix of people, but hopefully I'll be performing again someday.

So there it is!
The musical journey that has been such a big part of my life.
And I wonder what’s around the next corner?

I look forward to seeing you all at some venue in the future.
